Win Conference...call the Cops

Back in 2003 the Lady Houn basketball team traveled to Lamar for the Conference championship game and it was a great game, of course our Lady Houns came out on top, two years in a row, but after the game the crowd became a little hostile towards Coach Heman and the Lady Houns and the Cops were called in to calm things down.

UnPredictable

As I took the field on Friday nights for the Houn Dawgs, there was always one thing that made the night a little bit more special. My younger brother was ball boy for the team. He was still in Junior High and always wore his jersey. I will always remember the seniors giving him high fives and talking to him on the sidelines! All young kids look up to those older guys and they loved when the older football players noticed them. I think he smiled all game long.  There was a game where I took off down the sideline and I didnt notice at the time, but my brother Shane was running right along side me with the other game ball in his hand on the sideline cheering me on. What was so surprising, he kept up with me, everytime. Now he is a senior playing for the Dawgs and it is just something to look back on and say hey this kid is going to play ball! Good Luck Shane and GO DAWGS!

Look in the background of this photo and you can see him holding the ball watching and anticipating what is going to happen next.

Give them a lil' Shimmy

My favorite flashback is the whole 1999 season. Those kids had heart and a never die attitude! They were fun to watch and especially defensive back Clay Weldy. After totally destroying a reciever he would get up and do his trademark shimmy shake and it was a thing of beauty! Congrats to Clay for the 2008 3A State Championship.

Donnie Atkinson- Houn Dawg for Life

It will only happen once...

Trevor Cleavenger recalls when former Houn Dawg quarterback Stephen Mckay was running away from a Buffalo defensive end and Mckay slid out of bounds only to sprain his ankle on the sprinkler head sticking up out of the mud. He had to have it taped up and could hardly walk...but it was just a freak thing that happened, and it later became a joke with Mckay and the rest of the team..." Look out for those spinklers."
